Design services provided to Sinohydro Corporation Ltd, China for Design of Service Reservoirs and Pump houses of Kandy North Pathadumbara Integrated Water Supply Project
Kandy North Pathadumbara Integrated Water Supply Project is currently at its construction stage in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This project was been implemented to improve the drinking water supply requirements of six divisions in North Kandy. A new pump will be installed at the water intake at an increased capacity of 100,000m3/day from the current capacity of 50,000m3/day. A filtering system, clear water reservoir and a new fluctuation system will be built at the water treatment plant. A total of 28 service reservoirs, 18 pump stations, 85km of water transmission pipeline and 585km of water distribution pipeline will be constructed in the six divisions of Kandy.
AVEK Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd was entrusted by the main contractor Sinohydro Corporation limited to provide design services for 10 reservoirs and 4 pump houses including a 600m3 elevated water tower. The project was highly complex as all 30 reservoir sites were located on steep hills, requiring the AVEK team step beyond the confines of traditional reservoir structural designs Innovative slope stability analyses were carried out to assess both total and local stabilities for all 30 reservoir sites.
